Reflection principle

With a light-band of up to 60 mm, the RK46C is essentially a small light curtain against a reflector, with a resolution selectable by teach level for detecting irregular objects or undefined leading edges.

The CSR 780 is a switching light curtain that functions according to the reflection principle and has a high resolution and fast response time specifically for counting objects on machines or for ejection monitoring. With the reflection principle, an operating range up to 700 mm and gapless detection of small objects, e.g., 10 x 10 x 1 mm at up to 3.5 m/s are possible. Furthermore, readjustment is performed in the event of soiling and a warning output is provided for prefailure messages.

Reliable detection of irregular objects

Optical sensors with a light-band are adapted to applications where the object’s shape is not defined – i.e. variable.

While sensors with a single light beam reach their limits with perforated or irregular objects, the RK46C’s light-band enables continuous detection of the object and clean pinpointing of the leading edge – even with very flat objects (e.g. polybags).

With its closed light-band, the RK46C is a much simpler and more cost-effective solution than classic light curtains.

For detection with the RK46C, an interruption at any point in the light-band is sufficient to reliably detect objects at different heights, e.g. pallets or ‘bulky’ envelopes in the online mail order industry (‘polybags’). The sensors with 25 mm or 50 mm light-band are handled in the same way as a retro-reflective photoelectric sensor with teach button and are very easy to use.

The CSR 780 retro-reflective light curtain with its higher resolution and two measuring field lengths is used for smaller objects.

Advantages for you

  • Universal, reliable detection and increased functional reliability even with irregular, interrupted and reflective surfaces
  • Continuous detection of objects with different sizes and shapes from the leading to the trailing edge in one sensor thanks to two teach levels
  • Fast alignment thanks to clearly visible light beam

Applications

APIC_PA_SR46C_pallet_sensor_oktabin_wl_15cm_300dpi_700x500px

Detection of pallets

Requirement:
All types of pallets must be reliably detected over the entire length. Defective pallets or openings on pallets must also be permitted.

Solution:
The RK 46C retro-reflective photoelectric sensors also reliably detect objects with irregular shapes and openings. For this purpose, the devices use a powerful, 60 mm wide light-band.

Detection of polybags

Requirement:
Polybags must be reliably detected along their entire length at a speed of up to 2.5 m/s on a belt conveyor.

Solution:
The RK 46C series retro-reflective photoelectric sensors reliably detect objects as small as 3 mm on a belt conveyor system. For this purpose, the devices use a 25 mm wide, powerful light-band. Due to the switching frequency of 250 Hz, the RK 46C detects objects even at high conveyor speeds.
